What is self-awareness?

Self-awareness is the ability to tune into your thoughts, feelings and actions. But what does that mean exactly?

Have you ever felt like something was off in your life and you didn’t really know why or what it was exactly?

Odds are your actions, thoughts or feelings might’ve not been aligned with your internal values or standards. You have this image of yourself in your head, what your likes and dislikes are, what you think about how your life is going, and how you view your relationships, both with yourself and others. And when that image of yourself is skewed or inaccurate, life tends to rub you the wrong way. So we need to get a more accurate picture of who you actually are, but how do we do that? Well with self-awareness.

Self-awareness is looking at your thoughts, feelings, and actions objectively or through a “third-person” perspective. Self-awareness is simply seeing the truth in what’s happening within you.

So ask yourself what comes easily to you? What brings you joy? Note down the things that you’re good at and instead of asking why you’re good at it, ask yourself what is it about you that makes you good at these things?

Ask what, not why.

Do the same with the things that trigger you in a bad way, what about it triggers you etc?

These are the first steps to self-awareness, simply observe yourself.
