The 5 best tips in journalling.

  1. When you have writer’s block - Write about gratitude. List 5 things you’re grateful for in your life right now, and then list 5 things you’re grateful for in your life, that you don’t have yet, but are on their way to you.
example: I’m grateful for the promotion heading my way.
    - Gratitude helps lift your spirits and gets you writing. Store some more journaling prompts in case you get writer’s block.

  2. Make journalling non-negotiable. You have to journal for at least 5 minutes every day. You’re already in bed and under the covers? Who cares, get your journal, put a timer for 5 minutes, and write as you can until the timer goes off and you can go to sleep. Just writing a single sentence helps the brain create an atomic habit of journalling. One word is better than a blank page.

  3. There is no correct time for journaling. There is just YOUR time to journal. Some do it in bed right before they go to sleep and write about their day. Some do it first thing in the morning and write about how they feel about the day that lies ahead. Some do it in the middle of the day while having lunch and people watching. Just test out some times and find out when you feel most inspired to write.

  4. Celebrate the small wins. After journaling, every day for a week reward yourself with your favorite dinner or a massage appointment. Make journaling a pleasurable moment, not just for self-reflection but also just to enjoy your own company. Get those thoughts on the page and let them marinade in the book instead of your head.

  5. Write for yourself only. Get every deep, awkward, weird thought onto that page. This is for you and you alone. You’re in the driver’s seat but you are also always in first place when it comes to your journal. Keep this thought in mind; From me, to me, for me.
